History Macemain + Amstad

1952

Stephens Metal Development Industries Limited formed to produce fine limit sheet metal components for the aeronautical industry.

1972

Upon retirement of founder of SMDI, management of Macemain Engineering Limited amalgamated the two companies under the banner of SMDI (Macemain) Limited.

1981

Acquisition of new factory in Wimbledon, London , and company re-named Macemain Engineering Limited.

1987

Second factory built on Wimbledon site to accommodate the company's own seven stage pre-treatment and coating plant.

1990

Acquisition of site and construction of new purpose-built factory in Corby, Northamptonshire to house computer-aided manufacturing plant and machinery,

1997

Acquisition of Amstad Systems Limited, manufacturers of bus shelters with design and manufacturing capabilities for glazed walkways and entrance canopies.

1998

Acquisition of adjacent site and construction of second factory on Corby site to house coating and pre-treatment plants.

2001

Introduction and formation of a new company, Forms and Surfaces Ltd, specialising in the design and manufacture of tensile structures.
